Country Heights appeals against order to pay RM22.5mil tax arrears

The Mines Resort Berhad and Country Heights Holdings Berhad founder and chairman Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew said the four bungalow units, with the total value worth more than RM12mil, will start with a minimum reserve price of RM2.5mil each.

KUALA LUMPUR: Country Heights Holdings Bhd's (CHHB) unit Country Heights Sdn Bhd, which was ordered by the Shah Alam High Court to pay the Government tax arrears amounting to RM22.49mil, is appealing to the Finance Minister against the decision.

“As the tax liabilities of Country Heights Sdn Bhd were incurred during the Asian financial crisis in 1997 and 1998, the company has written to the current Minister of Finance to appeal against the IRB’s (Inland Revenue Board) decision,” it said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

The company noted that three other subsidiaries of the CHHB group had settled their tax liabilities totalling RM10.76mil earlier this month.

CHHB said the tax arrears were settled by Mega Palm Sdn Bhd (RM5.99mil for years of assessment 2011, 2013 and 2014), Mines Waterfront Business Park Sdn Bhd (RM1.09mil for the years of assessment 2008 and 2009) and Tindak Murni Sdn Bhd (RM3.78mil for the year of assessment 2014).

“The above payments are financed from an interest-free loan from a major shareholder of CHHB, namely Tan Sri Lee Kim Tiong @ Lee Kim Yew,” the company said.
