> Couple attempts to sell drugs to foot wedding bill
A couple's plan to smuggle and sell drugs in Danok, Thailand, to pay for their wedding was foiled after they were stopped by officers from the Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) on April 13. The 24-year-old man, reportedly the son of a policeman and manager of a supermarket in Penang, and his fiancée, 23, and a female friend, 24, were caught at KM1.3 of the North-South Expressway near Changlun. Authorities found drugs worth RM10,000 in their car, including Eramin 5 and ecstasy pills, syabu, and some marijuana. "Based on their travel documents, the three suspects were planning to enter Danok legally to sell drugs," said a source. They were arrested before they managed to cross the border. The suspects had planned to use the money to cover the expenses of the couple's wedding, scheduled for this year. The trio came from Georgetown and had obtained the drugs from a man, identified only as Mid, in Sungai Dua town. Bukit Kayu Hitam Aksem commander Mohd Khairi Abdullah confirmed the arrest and said the case had been handed over to state Narcotics Criminal Investigations Department. The trio are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
> Man attacked by tiger when answering nature's call
A 28-year-old man was allegedly attacked by a tiger when he was answering nature's call in a bush in the Gebeng industrial area, near Sungai Rasau in Pahang on Sunday. It is understood that Fridio Geljia was patrolling the area on a motorcycle with two dogs before the attack happened. "While patrolling, I suddenly had the urge to go to the toilet and stopped somewhere near Sungai Rasau. The dogs started barking and suddenly my leg was clawed by an animal in orange stripes and as tall as my waist. My leg was bitten too," he said. He claimed he fought the animal with his left hand, but was bitten on the right hand. As he struggled to release his right hand from the tiger's mouth, the two dogs finally came to his rescue. Fridio, who spoke of the terrifying experience while being treated at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan, said he was covered in blood and ran away from the tiger to the staff quarters before he was rushed to the hospital. Pahang Perhilitan deputy director Mohd Zaide Mohamad Zin said investigations were ongoing and the department has yet to be confirm whether the animal was a tiger as alleged by the victim.
