DAP's Gobind barred from Sarawak

PETALING JAYA: Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo of DAP joins the list of politicians to be denied entry into Sarawak.

Gobind told The Star Online that he had arrived at Kuching International Airport on Tuesday and was told he could not enter the state.

"Flight was at 9.40am and arrived at 11.30am," he said adding that he was on his way back to Kuala Lumpur and due to arrive at 2.45pm.

Asked if the Immigration department cited any reason for barring him, Gobind said they "relied on Section 65(1)(a) of the Immigration Act 1959/63".

Others who were denied entry included DAP’s Anthony Loke, Teresa Kok, Tony Pua, Teo Nie Ching, PKR’s Nurul Izzah Anwar, Tian Chua, Shamsul Iskandar, Zuraida Kamaruddin, Sim Sze Tsin and Amanah’s Mohamad Sabu.

Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem had said that some individuals were barred from entering Sarawak to protect the state from "unsavoury elements".

He said they were free to enter after the state elections on May 7.
