Vietnamese crewman dies after inhaling toxic fumes

A Vietnamese cargo ship Vimaru Pearl docked in the Kota Kinabalu port for medical assistance after three crew members became critically ill from inhaling toxic gas.

KOTA KINABALU: An engineer on board a Vietnamese ship died after inhaling poisonous fumes from a gas leak from the vessel's cargo compartment while in international waters off Sabah Monday.

Three other crewmen remain warded but in stable condition at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after the vessel headed into Kota Kinabalu for emergency medical assistance following the gas leak at around 6pm Monday.
