Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced Azhar's appointment of the world's third largest crude palm oil producer in a statement on Friday.

“I am confident that with his vast experience, Azhar will effectively helm FGV and, at the same time, enhance investor confidence, which would translate into a stronger share price for the company,” Najib said in the a statement.
