KUALA LUMPUR: More than 40 illegals were rounded up in an Immigration Department operations here Thursday.
Its director-general Datuk Seri Mustafa Ali said a total of 186 personnel were involved in the operations which focused on an entertainment outlet and flat units in the city.
"The operations were launched following a number of complaints and information received from members of the public.
"We checked a total of 189 foreigners during the operations which began at 11.30pm," he said when met at the scene on Thursday.
He said that of those checked at the flats in Pudu, 21 did not have any documents and were detained.
"We detained 12 Myanmar men, a Pakistani man, an Indonesian man, and an Indian man.
"We also detained five Myanmar women and an Indian woman," he said, adding that a simultaneous raid was conducted at an entertainment outlet along Jalan Kia Peng.
He said they checked a total of 45 people at the premises and arrested 24 individuals.
"We detained 22 women (20 Thailand women, two Uzbekistan women), and two Bangladeshi men.
"They did not have any documentation and the women, believed to be GROs, were found to be involved in vice activities at the premises," he said.
He said the operations would be a continuous effort by his department.
"We will also brief Members of Parliament, State Assemblies and Chief Ministers of our enforcement operations so that they know what is going on.
"The reason for this is to ensure that the local governments play their role in enforcing the law.
"During the raid, we also found that some flat units had been illegally renovated to house more occupants," he added.
