Driver dies after 10-tonne lorry plunges into sea near Lumut terminal


IPOH: A lorry driver was killed after the vehicle he was in fell into the sea near the Lumut Maritime Terminal in Manjung on Wednesday (April 5).

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer-in-charge Mohd Faisal Mohd Izham said they received information about the incident at about 5.30am.

"A 10-tonne lorry had fallen into the sea with a depth of about 11m.

"According to the port divers, there was only one victim involved.

"The victim was identified as Aqil Rasydan Razmi, in his 20’s," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Faisal said some of the vessels at the port were moved to allow the operation to rescue the victim.

"Two cranes at the port were used to lift the lorry back to land at about 9.45am.

"The victim was confirmed to have died by medical personnel at the location," he said, adding that the body was handed over to the police for the next course of action.

"The operation ended at about 10.10am," he added.
