Charred body of driver found after lorry goes up in flames on NSE near Pagoh

MUAR: A lorry driver was burnt to death in an accident at KM109.5 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) south-bound in Pagoh near here on Tuesday (June 13).

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said they received an emergency call on the incident at 11.40pm Tuesday.

“Seventeen firemen from the Pagoh and Bukit Gambir fire stations were deployed to the scene,’’ Pagoh Fire station chief Mohd Fadli Ismail said in a statement.

He said fire had already engulfed the 40-foot container lorry damaging about 80% of the vehicle when the rescue team arrived at the accident site.

“We found the charred body of a man believed to be the driver of the lorry,’’ said Mohd Fadli, adding the identification of the victim was unknown.

He said firemen used tube discharging foam to extinguish the fire before removing the victim’s body, which had been handed over to police for further action.

Mohd Fadli said two Fire Rapid Tender vehicles and an Emergency Medical Response Services vehicle were used in the operation that ended at 3.13am.
