Bonding together as Malaysians

AT the peaceful candlelight vigil held for the safe return of Pastor Raymond Koh to his family, I overheard an interesting comment. A fellow Malaysian mused out loud, “There are not enough Muslims here” with his eyes looking straight at a woman in hijab and a man who was wearing a kopiah in the crowd.

The comment got me thinking. There I was, literally standing next to said Malaysian man, with a number of my friends who are Muslim women, but we were not “counted” as Muslims because we were not stereotypically dressed and thus visibly identified as Muslims.
