THE Malaysian men’s team have won the gold 15 times and silver once since 1971. Hosts Singapore beat them to the gold in 1973. Malaysia have also dominated women’s hockey since 1993 – winning six finals and finishing runners-up to Singapore twice (Singapore 1993 and Chiang Mai 1995).
