GrabFood has now officially launched, with some 300 stores signed up to serve hungry customers.

When one door closes, another opens. Or in this case, the closure of Uber Eats is followed by GrabFood starting business.

In an e-mail to customers, Uber Malaysia says its Uber Eats app will no longer be operational from today.

It recommended users to migrate to the GrabFood app, softening the farewell with RM15 discount for the first two orders before June 30 with the promo code HIGRABFOOD.

Grab Malaysia also announced it's officially launching GrabFood today servicing Mont Kiara, Sri Hartamas, Bukit Damansara and Bangsar, plus the core of Kuala Lumpur, including Kampung Baru, Chow Kit, KL City Centre, Titiwangsa and Setiawangsa.

Country head Sean Goh says its localised technology will make transport and food delivery more efficient while delivering a seamless experience for users by unifying its GrabPay payments platform and GrabRewards loyalty programme.

"The expansion of GrabFood in Malaysia will bring the best of Malaysia’s kitchens to more consumers, and provide more income opportunities for local merchants and delivery-partners," he said, in a press statement.

GrabFood has signed up over 300 merchants such as KGB, Baba Low's, La Juiceria Superfood Cafe, Sala, Steak and Lobsters, Humble Chef, Inside Scoop, and Devi’s Corner.

“With GrabFood, we want to serve every palate and craving, and provide a platform for food vendors to come online and reach a wider customer base," says Goh.

He adds that user research with merchants where GrabFood is available shows the service is a real revenue game-changer for them, especially for small businesses whose shops or stalls are located in remote and under-served areas with minimal human traffic.

With GrabFood, users are not required to make a minimum order, with delivery fee fixed at RM5.

Users can also schedule orders up to five days in advance, in case they have to host a party or have very structured lives.

Users will need a Grab account to login to and they will be rewarded with GrabRewards points at a rate of five points for every RM1 spent.

All the restaurants on Uber Eats will be available on GrabFood with the same prices, and Grab promises to add more restaurants to the list. You can find more information on GrabFood here.
