Higher survival rate in private hospitals

KUALA LUMPUR: A study comparing a public hospital and its private wing has shown that the private section has a higher overall breast cancer survival rate (more than five years) than the public side, says the National Cancer Society of Malaysia.

Its president Dr S. Saunthari said that in a study of 2,767 patients from Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC, public side) and 1,199 patients from Universiti Malaya Specialist Centre (UMSC, private wing) last year, the overall survival rate for UMMC was 71% compared with 87% at UMSC.
