THOUSANDS of siput kabung (mussels) washed up at Pantai Chenang in Langkawi following a high tide phenomenon and days of strong waves, reported Berita Harian.
The molluscs could be seen over a 2km stretch at the beach.
Cleaner Zailani Omar, 55, said the mussels were found at about 2pm on Wednesday during low tide.
“This occurs annually after thunderstorms and strong waves. I collected about 600kg of the mussels into plastic bags to be disposed of,” he said.
Kampung Kedawang resident Siti Noraini Ahmad Tasir, 41, said the unusual occurrence was highly anticipated by people in the area.
“Each year, the beach will buzz with mussel-picking activities.
“The mussels are delicious when cooked with coconut milk or vegetables, or made into kerabu with bean sprouts,” said Siti Noraini, who collected about 7kg of the molluscs from the beach.
“It’s still a mystery as to where they came from as no one has ever found their habitat nearby,” said Kampung Belak villager Mohamad Junaidi Ahmad, 43
> Popular culinary influencer Khairul Aming is not ready to start his own family in the near future despite getting hundreds of unsolicited applications to be his wife on social media, Kosmo! reported.
The 32-year-old, whose real name is Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, said he was focused on managing his business and career as a content creator for now.
“It can be said that I receive hundreds of direct messages on social media and resumes via email asking to be my wife.
“It’s quite a shock, but it’s what happens. I am rather amazed by their courage to ask,” he said.
Khairul also said he was grateful that his family was not rushing him into starting a family.
“They understand my busy work schedule in managing a factory, workers, products and content,” he added.
Last year, Khairul was seen chatting with a woman at a cafe, sparking talk that he already had a girlfriend.
But he clarified that the person was just a fan who wanted to shoot a TikTok video with him.
